Week 6 Rehearsal
Working with Actors
Rehearsals
Blocking
-in terms of location, props, and other characters
-the actors should be able to take it upon themselves to make the scenes, the line, the blocking
-start off with small groups and 1/1s *if there is violence, ask the actors if they are okay*
-study the script, make sure the actors want to do the scene
-motivation, conflict overall
-clarifying whats on the page
Scene Breakdowns:
-what is really being said. (subtext)
-action verbs to lines/action
-designating crisis points, where the conflict crests
actor - what am i building up to, building a pyramid up to that crisis point
-after the crisis point what is the new direction of the scene
After rehearsals → Table Reads
-Build coheesion
-Every actor should be acting without moving
-Why are we making this film?
-Table reads should always be on book, everybody should be with the script, this is the time to make changes, make sure it doesn’t change the story,
-you should’ve gotten to know your actors when rehearsals remidning them why
Always use the rehearsals for the location, if you can’t get the location use a bare room.
-mark off walls and inserting props/art, know the exact measurent of th location
-give the actors time to concentrate on the script
Cuing/Pacing
-remind them that dialogue can’t overlap
-never show your actors the rehearsal
-encourage physical movement
block out everything, block out the actors movement and control their action
-say I want you to move here from here and say out their line
acting exercises if you need it - done more on set
-the reaction shot, forcing the actor to say nothing at all
how they react with no dialogue, shifting their weight, etc.
-function of the scene
Demand More.
-give feedback
-develop
-evolve
It’s your job to make it better.
