Begin your Deck Truss
Overview of Sketching the Deck Truss Part
This guide involves sketch creation for a deck truss part on a testing board.
Steps to Create the Sketch
1. Setup View
Ensure the deck truss part tab is selected.
Change the view to top and adjust it to have a flat perspective.
Zoom out for better visibility of the testing board and bracket.
Identify where the deck will begin, aligned with a specific line on the board.
2. Using the Use Tool
Activate the use tool to select the identified line on the board.
After selection, turn off the use tool to proceed with the line tool.
3. Drawing the Deck
Choosing Shape: The deck can be either rectangular or triangular.
After establishing the starting point:
Click to start drawing a line.
A dimension value will appear to define the width of the cantilever.
4. Dimension of Width
Width Restrictions: The width should not exceed 3.5 inches to fit under the bracket.
Example: A width of 2 inches has been chosen for the first line as a suitable dimension.
5. Drawing the Length
Adjust visibility by turning off the bracket:
Navigate to the parts list and deactivate the bracket's visibility by turning off the eyeball icon.
Length can range between 14 to 16 inches:
Click to draw the next line, typing 14 and pressing enter to set the length.
Ensure the line snaps correctly to the designated point on the testing board.
6. Alternative Shapes
The deck can also be created as a triangle:
Start from the midpoint with a visual plan to extend it.
Use the dimension tool (D) to set a desired length of 16 inches, which can also be presented as a construction line before finalizing.
After dimensioning, continue sketching to finalize the triangular shape.
Conclusion
This segment covers the initial construction of your deck with flexibility in design.
Further lessons will involve additional features such as offset, extend, and trim.
