Phobias
Phobia: An irrational fear of an object or situation.
Categories of Phobias: Specific phobia, social anxiety and agoraphobia
Specific Phobia: Phobia of an object, such as an animal or body part, or a situation.
Social Anxiety: Phobia of a social situation
Agoraphobia: Phobia of being outside or in a public place
Behavioural Characteristics of Phobias: Panic, avoidance or endurance (remaining close to the stimulus)
Emotional Characteristics of Phobias: Anxiety, fear, an unreasonable emotional response to the threat posed
Cognitive Characteristics of Phobias: Selective attention to the phobic stimulus, irrational beliefs and cognitive distortions about the phobic stimulus (seeing it in an unrealistic or inaccurate way)
