Types of Speech Context
Definition: Situation, environment, or circumstance where communication occurs.
Categories:
Intrapersonal:
Self-directed communication.
Example: Analyzing a conversation or reflecting on feelings.
Interpersonal:
Communication between individuals establishing relationships.
Example: Conversations with friends, sharing thoughts and feelings.
Types of Interpersonal Context
Dyad Communication:
Between two people
Examples: Providing feedback, comforting a friend
Small Group:
Engages 3-10 people
Examples: Organizational meetings, group discussions
Public Communication:
Requires a speaker addressing a larger group
Examples: Graduation speeches, debates
Mass Communication:
Through media like TV, radio, newspapers
Example: Articulating views through school publication
Types of Speech Style
Influenced by the context of communication.
Intimate:
Private language among close individuals.
Casual:
Jargon and informal language used among peers.
Consultative:
Standard and professional language.
Examples: Teacher-student, employer-employee communication.
Formal:
One-way communication in formal contexts.
Examples: Sermons, formal speeches.
Frozen:
Unchanging language, often used in ceremonies.
Examples: Preamble to the Constitution.
