Monocular Depth Cues

Monocular Depth Cues

  • Familiar and Relative Size: Depth perception based on an object's known size or its size relative to other objects.
  • Height in the Field of View: Objects positioned higher in a scene are generally perceived as farther away.
  • Linear Perspective: Objects appear smaller and parallel lines seem to converge as they recede into the distance.
  • Overlap: An object that partially blocks another is perceived as closer.
  • Shading: Variations in light and shadow patterns provide depth information, influenced by light source and viewer position.
  • Texture Gradient: Surface textures appear denser and finer the farther away they are from the viewer.
