The Heart
the heart is an organ made out of a muscle known as cardiac muscle
the function of the heart is to pump oxygenated blood all around the body
it also sends deoxygenated blood to the lungs to remove carbon dioxide and collect oxygen
the heart is divided into the right and left sides by a wall called a septum
each side has an upper chamber (the atrium) and a lower chamber (the ventricle)
Blood Circulation:
blood enters the body through the right atrium (through the vena cava) and the left atrium (through the pulomary vein) at the same time
the right ventricle contracts to force blood into the pulmonary artery to the lungs, at the same time, the left ventricle contracts to force blood into the aorta
the arteries that bring nutrients and oxygen to the heart are called corony arteries
