Session 1 - Introduction

Course Access and Requirements

  • Adobe Access: Access Adobe software via provided link and D2L.

  • Device Usage: Use the desktop version of Adobe software only; avoid tablets and iPads due to limited features.

  • Enrollment: New students may take 2-3 days for full access; contact CCS if not available.

  • Input Devices: Students may use either a traditional mouse or a stylus for desktop work.

  • Requirements for Computer: A reliable computer is necessary. Examples include:

    • 2021 MacBook Pro

    • 2012 MacBook Pro still performs well.

  • Campus Labs: If personal access is unavailable, labs on campus have software installed, open from 8 AM to 10 PM, some until midnight.

Photo Usage Policy

  • Personal Photo Requirement: Students must take their own photos; using downloaded images from the internet (Google Images, stock photos, etc.) will result in a grade of 0.

  • Consequences: Use of unauthorized sources leads to academic integrity violation discussions.

  • Recommended Method: Use cell phones for taking photos.

Course Outline and Scheduling

  • Introduction: Students are encouraged to introduce themselves and review the course outline for details on due dates and expectations.

  • Weekly Schedule: Course consists of weekly assignments including homework, quizzes, and major projects; some weeks may seem overwhelming with every week containing due tasks.

  • Skill Development: Course is front-heavy to build foundational skills upfront; missing assignments can hinder progress.

Course Format

  • Class Structure: Content is presented in both synchronous and asynchronous formats. Live classes occur on Thursdays, with some asynchronous learning.

  • Lecture Duration: Lectures are approximately 30-60 minutes, recorded videos are short (15-20 minutes).

  • Access to Materials: Lecture modules available a week in advance.

  • Photography Requirements: Photos can be from any time, as long as they are original.

Labs and Hands-On Work

  • Live Labs: Labs conducted via Zoom and Pressbook; not recorded. Seven tutorials outlined in the schedule, interactive with brainstorming exercises.

  • Flexibility: Students can work during labs; direct support available for troubleshooting and problem-solving.

  • Participation Incentives: Labs provide extra tips and real-world applications, important for learning beyond textbook material.

Class Environment and Conduct

  • Respect and Safety: Emphasis on treating classmates with respect and maintaining a safe, inclusive atmosphere for creativity.

  • Privacy Policy: Students must adhere to privacy guidelines; sharing classmates’ work or materials outside of the course is prohibited.

  • Non-Recorded Sessions: Live Zoom sessions are not recorded to protect students' privacy and comfort.
