big bang
The Big Bang Theory created the universe (15)
Catholics would agree with this statement. They would base their beliefs on their understanding on their understanding and acceptance of science as they believe this does not conflict with the word of God. The first person to introduced the idea of the Big Bang theory was Father Lemaitre who was a Catholic priest. This influences Catholics believe that it is possible to believe that the universe was formed by both God and the Big Bang Theory. Pope Francis would support this belief as he has .stated how the Big Bang Theory doesn’t contradict the intervention of a creator but, requires it. S
Furthermore, Catholics believe the belief that God created the universe from the Genesis creation account but this is a poem that contains theological truths. The theological truths contained in the account are that God is omnipotent and omnibenevolent. Catholics interpreted ‘yom’ mentioned i the original Hebrew account of Genesis to mean ‘age’ rather than day. For example, day 1 in which God separated light from day may relate to the first stage of creation. Pope Francis statement that we risk seeing God as a ‘magus’ if we believe in creationism and that ‘creation continued for… millennia and millennia’ supports the evidence put forward by the Big Bang Theory.
Atheist would agree with this statement, They base their belief on logic and evidence. They would argue that there is no logic or evidence behind God creating the universe but there is plenty evidence supporting Big Bang Theory. The theory proposes that the universe began 13.8 billion years ago from a moment of singularity and that the planets and stars were formed as the temperatures cooled. Atheists would argue that the moment the universe started to expand was caused by gravity and not God. The two main pieces of evidence to support the BB are the red shift and cosmic background microwave radiation. Hawking asks ‘what place for a creator?’ due to the fact the universe is constantly expanding and seems to have no boundary suggesting that there was no solid starting point from a creator. Richard Dawkins further emphasises this notion by stating that the universe is ‘without plan or purpose’ meaning the BB is the most probable cause has no creator as the evidence for Dawkins does not logically return to a creator. This is a weak argument because the question of what caused the BB is still yet to be answered
Fundamentalists would disagree. base their belief on how they believe that modern science conflicts with the word of god and so they reject science. they believe the world made according to the Genesis creation accounts. this believe the world was created in 6 days and the universe is 6000 years old. direct conflict with the 13.8 billions years. WA: conflicts with fossil records that have ages of millions of years.
