Exodus 14

God tells Moses to tell the Jews to camp by the Red Sea. God led them in such a way that the pharaoh following them will believe they are lost in the land. God will harden the pharaoh’s heart so that he will chase them. And God will place his honor over the pharaoh’s and his armies. So that all of Egypt will know he is Lord.

The pharaoh gets word the Jews left. He and his people have a heart change wondering why they ever let them go from their servitude. So the pharaoh got onto his chariot, got his army, and began to pursue the Jews. The Egyptians surround the Jews’ encampment by the sea and grow closer. The Jews are afraid and begin to cry out to God. They plead with Moses. Asking that because there are no graves in Egypt, has he led them to die in the wilderness? (Sarcasm/Irony bc Egypt is known for it’s graves/ they’re mocking him in their fear)

Moses tells them the stand strong and not fear. To trust in the Lord’s deliverance being shown to them today. The Egyptians they see now they will never see again.

God asks Moses why they are crying to him? He tells him to tell the Jews to go forward (to the sea). Directing him to lift his staff over the sea and divide it; to lead the Jews through the open center. He will harden the Egyptian’s hearts so that they will follow. God will get his highest honor and the Egyptians will know he is God.

An angel of God appears before the Egyptians behind the Jews along with the cloud pillar. Giving time to the Jews to follow Moses through the sea. The cloud that had provided light to the Jews now provides darkness to the Egyptians. Ig it turns into the pillar of fire as well.

Meanwhile Moses puts out the rod and a strong eastern wind blows the sea into 2. Giving the Jews a path to walk through. The waters acted as a wall on either side as they went through. The Egyptians see this and get mad and pursue the Jews into the path. The pillar of fire burning at their chariots and wheels. They begin to turn tail seeing that God is fighting for the Jews against them.

When all the Jews make it out the other side, God tells Moses to stretch out his hand to the sea so that it may close with all the Egyptians inside. Moses does so and the ocean collapses on the retreating Egyptians, killing all of them. Even seeing a few bodies along the shoreline. This gave the Jews a new reverence for the Lord and his servant, Moses.
