imparfait- conjugation

to conjugate in the imparfait :
- conjugate in present for the nous form ([nous] marchons)
- take off -ons (march)
- add the ending (je marchais)

only irregular imparfait is être, which becomes the stem ét
- j’étais, tu étais, il était, nous étions, vous étiez, ils étaient
verbs that end in -ger
- nager, manger, ranger, voyager etc.
- the g is followed by an e before adding -ons
- nous nageons is the conjugated verb, nage is the stem
- nage is the stem for all conjugations except nous and vous
- the e isn’t needed because he word is pronounced correctly when g is followed by i

verbs that end in -cer
- commencer, lancer, etc.
- the letter c before the er needs la cedille (ç)
- otherwise, the sound becomes a k sound instead of a s sound
- like with the -ger verbs, the ç is not needed for the nous and vous conjugation

irregular verbs
