Block 4 🧩 Hierachy & Systems

(aka “Your body’s messy corporate ladder”)

🧩 Hierarchy of Order — The Organizational Chart

Your body’s structure levels, from smallest drama to biggest disaster:

  1. Cells → The employees (each has a job & attitude).

  2. Tissues → Departments (groups of similar workers).

  3. Organs → Entire divisions made of multiple departments.

  4. Organ Systems → Full companies working together for a shared goal.

  5. Organism (You) → CEO of chaos.

Mnemonic: “Crazy Teachers Organize Smart Offices.”

🧍‍♀ Organ vs Organ System

  • Organ: 2+ types of tissue doing one main function.
    → Ex: Heart = muscle + nerve + connective.

  • Organ System: multiple organs working together for a big-picture goal.
→ Ex: Cardiovascular System = heart + vessels, team blood delivery.

🫀 11 Body Systems — The Squad Roll Call

🧴 1. Integumentary System
  • Skin, hair, nails, glands.

  • Protection, vitamin D, temp control, sensory.

The body’s “bouncer + fashion stylist.”

🦴 2. Skeletal System
  • Bones, cartilage, ligaments.

  • Structure, protection, calcium storage, blood cell formation.

“Keeps you upright and not a flesh puddle.”

💪 3. Muscular System
  • Skeletal, smooth, cardiac muscles.

  • Movement, posture, heat generation.

“Burns calories and gets you outta bed.”

🧠 4. Nervous System
  • Brain, spinal cord, nerves, sensory organs.

  • Communication, coordination, control.

“The bossy control freak.”

💉 5. Endocrine System
  • Glands (thyroid, adrenal, pancreas, etc.)

  • Hormone production for slow, long-term control.

“Passive-aggressive emailer of the body.”

6. Cardiovascular System
  • Heart + blood vessels.

  • Transports oxygen, nutrients, hormones, waste.

“The Uber Eats of life.”

🧫 7. Lymphatic & Immune Systems
  • Lymph nodes, spleen, tonsils, thymus.

  • Fluid balance + defense against pathogens.

“The body’s janitorial + security team.”

🫁 8. Respiratory System
  • Nose, pharynx, trachea, bronchi, lungs.

  • Gas exchange (O₂ in, CO₂ out).

“Your internal AC unit.”

🍔 9. Digestive System
  • Mouth → anus journey: teeth, esophagus, stomach, intestines, liver, pancreas.

  • Breaks down food for nutrients + energy.

“Turns tacos into fuel.” 🌮

💦 10. Urinary System
  • Kidneys, ureters, bladder, urethra.

  • Filters waste, maintains fluid & pH balance.

“The plumbing department.” 🚽

🍼 11. Reproductive System
  • Female: ovaries, uterus, vagina.

  • Male: testes, penis, ducts.

  • Function: making tiny humans (or chaos).

“HR said no interoffice dating — they didn’t listen.”

🧠 Body Systems Don’t Work Alone

They’re all codependent.
Example:

  • Nervous + Endocrine → Control.

  • Respiratory + Cardiovascular → Gas exchange + delivery.

  • Skeletal + Muscular → Movement.

  • Digestive + Urinary → Waste management duo.

If one system flops, the others pick up slack or panic.

  • (8 questions) Identify body systems + major functions

Be ready to match systems to organs + roles — they’ll test if you can tell who does what.

Quick Mnemonic

I – Integumentary
S – Skeletal
M – Muscular
N – Nervous
E – Endocrine
C – Cardiovascular
L – Lymphatic
R – Respiratory
U – Urinary

R – Reproductive

(Yes, there are two R’s. It’s fine. We’re tired.)

💅 Summary Vibe:

Your body’s just a group project that somehow functions — the brain yells, the heart overworks, the stomach’s dramatic, and the skin’s holding everyone together with caffeine and trauma.
