• 165 Romanian orphans adopted into UK families
• longitudinal study
• 4, 6, 11, 15, 16 year old
    * different developmental tests at these ages
      * physical
      * emotional
      * intellectual
      * social
• control group
    * 52 British children from adopted families

Findings:

• first arrIved to UK
    * severe delayed intellectual development
• 11-16 years old
    * significant variety of development
• adopted before 6 months
    * at 16 - IQ = 102
• adopted between 6 months - 2 years old
    * at 16 - IQ = 86
• adopted around 2 years and above (privation)
    * at 16 - IQ = 70
