group dynamics week seven
Lewin’s law of interactionism: group members reactions (B) are a function of member’s personal qualities (P) and the social/physical environment (E) where the group is located
- B = f(P,E)
group ecology: the study of interactions among the living (the group and its members) and the nonliving (setting) components of a group’s environment, emphasis is placed on the spatial arrangements of individuals in small groups
ambience: the psychological reaction evoked by a setting, includes mood, feelings, and emotions. this response is subjective
two basic questions for calculating an environment:
- how pleasant is the place (positive vs. negative)
- how arousing is the place (relaxing vs. activating)
