Fascism: Is far right, authoritarian and ultra nationalist political ideology characterized by dictatorial leader, extreme nationalism, totalitarian system of government, one party state, autarky and military strength and violence

  1. Ideology: 

A system of ideas and beliefs that explains how society should be organized and influences political and social actions

  1. Far Right

The extreme right end of politics supports strong nationalism,, dictatorship and ultra nationalism

  1. (Ultra-) Nationalism

Extreme nationalism or pride of one nations, often linked to militarism

  1. Militarism

A country should use military methods to gain power, glorifying war, high spending on military and that military might is essential for a strong nation.

  1. Social Darwinism

Application of Charles Darwin’s theory of natural selection to human societies or amongst nations to justify racism and inequality. 

Survival of the fittest.

  1. Social unity

Social unity and the degree of cohesion (loyalty to the state)within a society where people feel connected through shared values identify or goals and work together rather than being divided by class ethnicity religion or politics

  1. Authoritarianism

A way of ruling where one person has all the power and people must obey then without question little or no freedom to choose or oppose. Dislike of choice and multiple parties

  1. Totalitarianism 

Government

has unlimited and total control on political, social, culture, economic aspects of society. Often mass use of propaganda. 

  1. Autocracy 

A system of government in which the supreme power is concentrated in the single hands of the ruler. No constitutional limits, no accountability to the population. 

  1. Autarky 

Economic policy that aims to achieve total self sufficiency so that it does not need international reliance.

Fascist party characteristics in order to gain control:

  1. Emerging out of disillusionment

  2. Establishing legitimacy as a political party

  3. Gaining power via right wing partnerships

  4. Using power to dominate institutions

  5. Implementing Radical reforms
