Series and parallel circuits
SERIES CIRCUITS
If you remove one component, the circuit is broken, and everything stops working.
The current is the same anywhere in a series circuit.
The voltage in a series circuit will split between the components.
The sum of voltages across components is equal to the voltage of the supply.
If multiple components are in series, voltage divides equally between them.
PARALLEL CIRCUITS
- If you remove one component, it will not affect components on a different ‘branch.’
- The current will split down each strand.
- The voltage is the same anywhere in a parallel circuit.
