Understanding Map Signatures

• To effectively read a map, familiarity with its symbols is essential.
• Many of these signatures can be deduced from the colors used on the map.

Types of Map Features

• Maps are either human-made or naturally occurring.
• Human-made features include:
  • Buildings
  • Special objects of various types
  • Roads
  • Smaller paths (marked differently based on size)
  • Large stones and rocky areas
