Cervical Caries

Cervical lesions can occur both buccally or lingually/palatally. They may occur on the enamel or root surface of the tooth closest to the gingival margin. As a preventative measure, fluoride varnish may be applied to the root surface of individuals who you may deem to be at high caries risk

  • Restored with GIC, RMGIC or composite

Check radiographs for radiolucencies missed clinically.

Likely to be caused by poor OH in specific areas.

  • Bevel and/or remove the undermining enamel to improve retention

Ketac Fil Plus GIC

  • Use polyacrylic acid conditioner to etch enamel and condition dentine for placement

  • Mix and place GIC

  • Remove excess material with wards carver and smooth over

  • Use a mirror to check placement from all angles

  • A varnish can then be applied over the top to protect it

  • Have final polish after 15 mins and place a final coating of varnish
