09. Isomers simplified!

• Isomers - Molecules with same molecular formula but different arrangement of atoms

  • Structural - Atoms bonded in different order

  • Stereoisomers - Atoms ordered in same order but arranged differently in space

    • E-Z - Isomerism of alkenes -> 2 groups can be on same side (e) or opposite side of double bond (z)

Structural isomerism

• Chain isomerism - Arrangement of CARBON skeleton

• Position isomerism - Same carbon skeleton but FUNCTIONAL GROUP is in different position

• Functional Group Isomerism - Same molecular formula but DIFFERENT functional group
