Terrorism

Terrorism is the unlawful use of violence, usually against innocent civilians, to achieve a political, religious or ideological goal.

No religion promotes terrorism, but some people carry out terrorist attacks based on their religious beliefs

Three examples of terrorist attacks:

  • 9/11 - the world trade centre, including twin towers, was destroyed by al-Qaeda, an Islamist terrorist organisation - nearly 3,000 people were killed

  • 7/7 - Three al-Qaeda suicide bombers attack the London underground

  • 1960s-1998: The Troubles in Northern Ireland - at least 10,000 bombings were carried out during this period, in 1998, the Good Friday agreement was signed, which officially ended the conflict (Catholics vs Protestants)

It is immoral - fails to meet the criteria for just war theory, not declared by a government, intentions are incorrect, targets civilians, contradicts teachings
