Chapter 1 Notes

DEFINITION OF ART VIDEO

  1. How does the narrator qualify popular art (she gives three reasons when talking about the banana)?

Hung in a gallery, people came to see it in the gallery, it was assigned value             higher than a luxury sports car

  1. How do artworks made out of ordinary objects (even trash) compare with more traditional forms of art, like da Vinci's Mona Lisa (watch for Lesson One)?

With ordinary object art, it’s not about the object, it’s about how someone sees it.             There’s an opinion that items can become art when you change how someone             sees or looks at an object.

  1. Explain Lesson Two.

Art is about making us think or feel something, but those feelings and thoughts             don’t have to be positive. Just needs to stir up emotions and thoughts.

  1. Why isn't any banana a work of art like Cattelan's?

Because it wasn’t put forward like a work of art and/or displayed in an art gallery.
