10 Commandments (covenant with Moses)

BACKGROUND INFO

400 years after the covenant with Abraham the Jews were enslaved by the Egyptians. God chose Moses to lead their escape back to Canaan through a burning bush. After the 10 plagues of Egypt the Pharoah released the Jews, they then wandered to Sinai. Moses went to the top of Mount Sinai and is given the 10 commandments on 2 stone tablets.

God promised that he would free them from Egypt, protect the Jews from harm, promise them their land, and make them the chosen people.

Moses and the Jews promised that they would follow the 10 commandments, keep the 613 mitzvot, and worship God

Ten Commandments

  1. I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.

  2. You shall have no other gods before me.

  3. You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God,

  4. Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.

  5. Honor your father and your mother

  6. You shall not murder.

  7. You shall not commit adultery.

  8. You shall not steal.

  9. You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.

  10. You shall not covet your neighbor’s house.
