Volleyball Overview Objective: Two teams volley the ball over the net, aiming to land it in the opponent's court.

Played: Indoors or outdoors with 6 players per team.

History Created: 1895 by William G. Morgan at YMCA, Massachusetts.

Original Name: "Mintonette" (changed to volleyball).

Growth: USVBA formed in 1928, now played by millions worldwide.

Basic Rules Serve: Initiates play. Underhand or overhead serve.

Pass: Receiving opponent’s serve/attack.

Dig: Preventing the ball from hitting the court.

Block: Stopping the opponent’s attack.

Set & Attack: Setting the ball for a hard strike.

Rotation & Scoring Rotation: Players rotate clockwise after winning serve.

Scoring: Rally scoring, game to 25 points (win by 2).

Game Play 3 Hits Max: Each team can hit the ball three times.

No Consecutive Hits: Except for blocks.

Boundary: Ball touching the line is in.

Violations Serving: Stepping on the line, failing to serve over net.

Illegal Hits: Carrying, palming the ball.

Net & Position Violations: Touching the net or blocking/spiking from wrong position.

Court Layout Center Line: Divides the court.

Attack & Back Zones: Front and back sections of the court.

Service Zone: Area behind the end line.

Ace: Unreturned serve.

Sideout: When the serving team makes an error.

Stuff: Block that sends the ball back.

Dig: Difficult save from a spike.

Kill: A point-winning spike
