Autocratic - leader has complete control

  • Good for quick decision making

  • Good for small businesses

Paternalistic - leader makes decisions in the staff’s best interests

  • Good when staff are uneducated or inexperienced

  • Good when leader needs to build a strong sense of loyalty

Democratic - team involved in decision making

  • Good when the business needs to encourage creativity and innovation

  • Effective on larger firms

Laissez-faire - leader is not involved, just employees

  • Staff must be educated

  • Good to build independence and motivation
