Diplomacy Types
Dollar Diplomacy:

Moral Diplomacy:
- Entails intervening in countries based on moral principles.
- Focuses on doing what is perceived as the "right moral thing."
Roosevelt Corollary
- An extension of the Monroe Doctrine.
- Monroe Doctrine:
- Asserted that the United States would police the Western Hemisphere.
- The Roosevelt Corollary stated that the U.S. would enforce the Monroe Doctrine.
- Involves military intervention.
Big Stick Diplomacy
- Relies on military intervention as a primary tool.
- Associated with Teddy Roosevelt's foreign policy approach.
- The "big stick" represents the use of military force.
Modern Foreign Policy
- The U.S. utilizes all three diplomacy types (big stick, dollar, and moral) in its foreign policy today.
- Military intervention is used when necessary.
- Financial control is employed through economic means.
- Moral justifications are given for interventions, often framed as protecting democracy.
Protecting Democracy
- The U.S. uses intervention to protect democracy. The reasons given for intervention are often based on the need to protect and maintain democracy.
Test Review

- The DBQ will be reviewed as a refresher.
- The last ten years of DBQ prompts will be examined to predict the potential DBQ subject for the test.
DBQ Focus:
- Past DBQs have frequently been from period 4.
- Hoping for periods 7 or 8 this year to focus more on twentieth-century topics.
