Cellular Respiration
- C6H12O6 + 6 O2 → 6 CO2 + 6 H2O + ATP
- Aerobic: requires oxygen
- Exergonic: gives off ATP (32 total per glucose molecule)
- 4 main steps:
- Glycolysis - energy investment
- Transition reaction
- Citric acid cycle (Kreb’s cycle)
- Electron transport chain
Fermentation
- Anaerobic
- Only get energy from substrate-level P during glycolysis (2 ATP)
- 2 different paths:
- Alcohol
- Lactic acid
