5 Themes of Geography: Location + Place
location- refers to the coordinates of a place and where to find it
latitude- horizontal east- west 0-180
longitude- vertical north-south 0-90
Absolute Location
absolute location-the exact location of a person or a place using the coordinate system
Relative Location
relative location- location using places or landmarks nearby to tell your location (ex: the us is: north of mexico, south of canada, in between the atlantic and pacific oceans
Place
place- refers to the physical features of a place and make a place unique
helps understand the diversity of our planet
Two main components
physical characteristics- natural features of a certain place including land forms, mountains etc
human characteristics- the people of the region: cultural, social, and economic which include language, religion, architecture, and economic activity
Human Environment and Interaction
human environment interaction-explores how humans alter their behavior to suit the environment; it helps us understand the impact of human actions on nature and it shows how the environment shapes our behavior + society
