Uchendu - Okonkwo’s maternal uncle. He serves as a wise elder and guide to Okonkwo during his exile, emphasizing the importance of family and resilience.
Nwoye - Okonkwo’s eldest son. In Part 2, Nwoye converts to Christianity, deepening the rift between him and his father.
Obierika - Okonkwo’s best friend. He supports Okonkwo during his exile by selling his yams and informing him of events in Umuofia, such as the arrival of missionaries.
Mr. Brown - The first missionary in Umuofia and Mbanta. He is patient and understanding, fostering peaceful relations with the Igbo people.
The Missionaries - A group of Christian evangelists led by Mr. Brown. They represent the growing influence of European religion and culture.
Nneka - The first woman in Mbanta to convert to Christianity, partly due to being marginalized for giving birth to twins.
Okonkwo’s wives:
Ekwefi - Second wife, mother of Ezinma.
Ojiugo - Third wife, has minor involvement in this part of the story.
Ezinma - Okonkwo’s favorite daughter. She grows into a strong young woman in Part 2 and remains a source of pride for Okonkwo.
Okonkwo - Returns to Umuofia after seven years in exile. He becomes increasingly frustrated by the changes in his society.
Obierika - Continues to act as Okonkwo’s ally and a voice of reason, contrasting Okonkwo's rigid views.
Reverend James Smith - Replaces Mr. Brown as the head of the mission. Unlike Mr. Brown, he is harsh and uncompromising, escalating tensions with the Igbo people.
Enoch - A fanatical Christian convert who provokes the clan by unmasking an egwugwu, leading to significant conflict.
Egwuqwu - The masked ancestral spirits of the clan, representing traditional Igbo justice and culture. They play a critical role in opposing the missionaries.
The District Commissioner - A colonial authority figure who embodies the European oppression of the Igbo. He arrests Okonkwo and the other clan leaders and later orders the disposal of Okonkwo's body.
