1792 Election

Washington stands again as President due to growth of factions and wanting to maintain political peace.

Each electoral college had 2 votes. They used one vote for the President (Washington) and another for the Vice President (John Adams beat Clinton 75 to 50 votes). This caused issues where factions could mix - the 12th Amendment fixed this. The colleges could not also vote for candidates from the same state.

The election highlighted the growth of factions as we see issues of incompatability of mixed factions in the President and VP positions, resulting in the 12th Amendment. Additionally, Washington only ran again as President to setlle issues with factionalism.

Jefferson resigns due to the bad nature of his rivalry with Hamilton, Washington almost dismissed him for this. Their rivalry amplified the nature of factionalism.
