Math Vocab Shapes

1. base a special face or pair of faces on a 3-dimensional figure

2. congruent-figures that are the same size and same shape

3 edge- the line segment formed where two faces of a solid figure meet

4. face- a flat surface of a 3-dimensional solid

5. vertex/vertices- the point where 2 rays meet, where two sides of a polygon meet, or where 3 or more edges in a solid figure meet the top point of a cone or pyramid

6. ray- a part of a line, with one endpoint, that is straight and continues in one direction

7. polygon-a closed figure made of line segments

8. quadrilateral- a polygon with four sides and four angles

9. rectangular prism a three-dimensional solid with & rectangular faces

10. triangular prism- a three-dimensional solid with two congruent, triangular bases: other faces are parallelograms; 5 faces

11. sphere- a three-dimensional solid that has the shape of a round ball

12. parallelogram- a quadrilateral with 2 sets of opposite sides that are parallel and congruent

13. hexagon- a polygon with six sides and six angles

14. pentagona polygon with five sides and five angles

15. rectangle-a polygon with four sides and four right angles

16. rhombus a parallelogram with four congruent sides and opposite angles that are congruent

17 square-a special rectangle with four sides and four right angles

18. trapezoida quadrilateral with exactly one pair of parallel sides

19. octagona polygon with eight sides and eight angles.
