Connectors Overview
Power Connectors:
Motherboard Power Connector: Large connector that powers the motherboard.
Molex Connector: Legacy 4-pin connector used before SATA for power.
SATA Power Connectors: Modern machines primarily use these for hard drives; Molex to SATA adapters are commonly available.
Connecting Power Supply
Step 1: Connect power supply to the motherboard using the large power connector.
Step 2: Connect the CPU power using the 8-pin Molex connector.
Note: The connection may require a firm push.
Result: Power supply is now connected to both the motherboard and the CPU.
Case Cables Connection
Case Cables: Vary by model and include buttons and lights.
Secure case cables to motherboard; use motherboard guides for a clean installation.
Installing the Graphics Card
Step 3: Insert graphics card into the PCI Express slot on the motherboard.
Action: Apply pressure until you hear a click.
Secure graphics card to the case (installation may vary by case).
Closing the Computer Case
Final step: Remove anti-static bracelet before putting on the case lid.
Result: The computer is built and ready for peripherals.
Connecting Peripherals
Keyboard Connection: Use USB connector to plug into the desktop.
Mouse Connection: Similarly, connect mouse using USB.
Monitor Connection:
Cable Used: DisplayPort cable; connect one end to the desktop and the other to the monitor.
Testing the Setup
Power On: Turn on the computer to check functionality.
Indicators:
Blue light signifies power.
If monitor receives a signal, system is booting up.
Successful Boot: Messages appearing on the monitor indicate successful startup.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
If the computer does not start:
Check if the power supply provides sufficient wattage.
Ensure all connectors are placed correctly.
Error Message: "Non-system disk or disk error" indicates the need for an operating system.
