Mauri Ora Compass

And tool of meaning that can help us to work out how to design and practice for little systems, thriving. And I guess after 3, 2.5 years at the school, you know why we want to be doing that, right? These kind of tools are really useful to help us address the wide range of things that we need to be considering because our current culture. This Western, globalised culture is journalist, it's separating, it's not connected to the planet, or to other people. And it doesn't really take account of how, what our actions, the toll their actions take on the planet. So, as a school, with our co-papa, we're trying to emphasise regenerative design practice. That requires massive system change, obviously. And suddenly there is widespread agreement now that we do need to engage in a significant cultural system change. The intergovernmental panels on climate change and biodiversity have made that very clear, place-based communities are already enacting change, indigenous communities have been acting for change for, you know, generations. But we know also from the kind of everyday effects that we're seeing in terms of weather and biodiversity decline, that it is increasingly important that we act swiftly. So tools like these can help, help us to think about how to practice better. And the change is significant. We have to be changing our, the way we engage with our ecological systems, the way we're designing lodges, systems, if we're in urban space, particularly. So that's the outer ring of the compass. We need to be changing our energy systems, away from fossil fuel, towards renewables, and 0 carbon, positive. We need to be changing our economic systems, moving from a take make waste sort of model to a more circular regenerative model. We need to be changing the way we do our urban form and the way we build community. And we need to pull all of those things together in terms of the way we do buildings. So it's a lot to do. But also, a lot of this stuff has been known for generations, actually, there's a lot of cities where these kind of practises are already in place. There's lots of places in New Zealand which are already leading change in this space. So the change is already happening. There are barriers. But as designers, this is the world that you will be designing within. Yeah, so I guess the opportunity today. Priscilla is to do a little short workshop, in your tutor groups, in your side groups, just to start to lend into your studio project and what you may want to focus on. Because if you try and focus on everything, obviously it can get really overwhelming. It can be very strategic to just focus on one thing or if you're working in a group for the group to take on different areas of focus. Yeah. Did you and I? Yeah, so should we say that? Yeah, we'll have the modular compass printed for you to have a look with your groups? And, um, yeah, what I really appreciate about this, you know, um, in order to
