Chapter 7. Major Causes Of Accidents
a. Driving too fast for conditions
Speed limit signs: Do not pass the speed limit… based on the #of cars, types of surface, weather
Slower traffic stays on the RIGHT SIDE
Residential, Business, school zone= 25 speed limit
Intersection, Alleys, Railroad crossing= 15 miles per hour
Blind spots are a common feature of all types of vehicles, referring to areas around the vehicle that drivers are unable to see while looking straight ahead or using their mirrors.
e. Making Poor Decisions:
As a result of disregarding law
Observe the Basic Speed Law in California,
Adjust your speed according to the number and speed of other vehicles on the road.
onsider the road surface conditions, such as smoothness, roughness, gravel, and wetness, when determining your speed.
Avoid weaving in and out of freeway lanes to reduce traffic congestion and maintain a safe speed.
When a green light is shown for cars moving straight across an intersection, they have the right-of-way. However, cars turning left on a green light must yield to oncoming traffic.
No STOP or YIELD signs: First vehicle to arrive gets right-of-way. Yield to the right if arriving simultaneously. At all-way stop signs, stop and proceed if safe.
T intersections: Vehicles and pedestrians on through roads have right-of-way.
Left turns: Give right-of-way to approaching vehicles and pedestrians.
Right turns: Watch for pedestrians, bicycles, and motorcycles.
Green light: Proceed with caution, pedestrians have right-of-way.
Entering traffic: Yield to existing traffic, never block the intersection.
