Memorize Psalms 140 and 141 for the upcoming test, as they will be included in the written or assessment.

Lesson 1 - Isaiah

War

Israel broke into a Northern Kingdom & Southern Kingdom after Solomon died. The Northern Kingdom is known as Israel, while the Southern Kingdom is referred to as Judah. The division led to distinct political and religious developments in each kingdom, influencing their respective histories and prophecies. The Northern Kingdom was large, but it wasn’t stable. There was a lot of fighting in the Northern Kingdom. Meanwhile the Southern Kingdom Judea whose capitol was Jerusalem, was small but there wasn’t as much fighting as the Northern Kingdom.

There enemies were Syria & Assyria. Judea was later attacked by Babylon. Persia freed the Jews from Babylon while Assyria was trying to expand their borders. Babylon was going to be the future superpower. Assyria wanted to attack Judea.

Part 1 (Chapters 1-39)

The King of Judea wanted to form an alliance with Assyria. God and Isaiah told him that it was a bad idea. Part 1 mentions how God keeps his promises to his people.

Part 2 (Chapters 40-55)

Isaiah’s vision about the Suffering Servant. Isaiah said that there would be someone who would save us from our sins. And be persecuted for it. We believe that Isaiah was talking about Jesus.

Part 3 (Chapters 56-66)

King Cyrus of Persia helped the Jews by saving them from Babylon. Salvation & future kingdom of God.

Isaiah’s Life

Isaiah lived around 750 B.C. He survived the rule of 4 kings. Lived in Jerusalem while serving God for 40 years.

Isaiah means “help from God” or “God helps.” He was the son of Amos.

Isaiah was known as the 5th Evangelist

Lesson 2 - Amos

  • Amos was a minor prophet.

  • Amos means “one who carries burden.”

  • He is known as a spokesperson for God.

  • Tells that God likes justice more than religious rights.

  • Called the prophet of righteousness .

  • Preached in Northern Kingdom

  • Told the people what they were doing was wrong.

Amos talked about justice.

Lesson 3 - Hosea

Hosea’s wife left him and was unfaithful to him so Hosea was heartbroken. Hosea means “Gods Help.” Hosea was the Prophet of Love. He preached in the Northern Kingdom. Hosea shares how Gods love is endless, he is patient, and he likes mercy.

Part 1 of the Holy Qurbana

-The Queen of Sacraments > allows us to participate in the birth, public ministry, death, resurrection & the 2nd coming of our Lord.

4 Components

  • Celebrant > bishop or priest to celebrate the HQ

  • Sacramental Items > Items used for the HQ (bread, wine etc.)

  • Holy Liturgy > Anaphora/Qurbana Thaksa Liturgy used for HQ

  • Recipients > the congregation who receive the HQ

The Holy Qurbana was established by Jesus at the Last Supper

Sacramental Items Overview

  • Curtain (Thirushleeha): visualize opening of heaven, a separation between Heaven & Earth

  • Thronos (Table/Throne): represents tomb of Christ, the table of life

  • Cross (Sleeba): represents the Lord’s sacrifice

  • Candles: 12 candles represent the 12 disciples, 1 candle in the middle to represent Christ

Prayer

Pray with strong faith & adoration. We believe during Jesus’ 2nd coming he will rise from the East since the Sun rises in the East.

Quamo means standing prayer. Which is why you stand when you pray.

Jeremiah said to have emotional honesty with God & to just talk to God.

Cross (Sleeba)

Cross means God from Heaven came to Earth & saved us from our sins.

Before Jesus was crucified on the cross the cross was a method of torture. So criminals would be hung on the cross to die. Since Jesus was seen as a criminal the people had him hung too.
