Procal - Key points to remember

Quaque (q) is a Latin medical term meaning "every" or "once." It appears in dosage instructions to specify how frequently a medication should be taken.

Common Uses in Prescriptions:

• q1h → quaque hora → Every 1 hour

• q2h → quaque 2 hora → Every 2 hours

• qid → quaque in diem → Four times daily

• qd → quaque die → Once daily

💡 Memory Trick: Think of "Q" = "Queue" → Like a repeated schedule in a queue, meaning every (X) hours or days.

• The 1mL syringe (commonly known as Tuberculin syringe

• Clinical calculations involving such a syringe must be carried out to three decimal places and the final answer rounded to two decimal places. So if a calculation results in an answer of 0.428 mL, administer 0.43 mL.

• Insulin (which is also dispensed in Units) should only be measured and administered by an Insulin Syringe.

• Berculin syringe - holds a maximum of 1 mL and is calibrated in hundredths of a mL (0.01 mL). the needle size is very thin (29 to 31 gauge)

• Note: Some Tuberculin syringes are of 0.5 mL capacity only. These syringes are often pre-packaged with a 16 mm needle.

• The two standard insulin syringes are the 1 mL and 0.5 mL models.
