Watts riots in Los Angeles, resulted in 34 deaths and up to 1000 injuries with $40 million damage done to the 

1966 Black Panther Party for Self defence was established in Oakland, California by Huey Newton 

Black panthers demanded the compensation of slavery to Black Americans 

238 race riots followed suit 

Inspired by Che Guevera and Mao Zedong 

Freedom for Incarcerated Black Americans, who should only be jailed after trial by Black Jury

MLK Jr drew attention to ghetto 

Anti-communist propoganda ensured that sympathy for the poor was equated with sympathy fro communist doctrines 

Black power movement unlike the first wave civil rights movement lacked centralised organisations and significant fund raising, and with the alienation of white liberals funding suffered

CORE established freedom houses in ghettos

Poor organisation and had varying amounts of ideology 

SNCC after adopting Stokely Carmicheal, joined black panthers and advocated for armed self defence 

Nixon admnsitration saw black panthers as domestic terrorists and used FBI to dismantle and destroy the organisation

NUL aimed to give AA economic independence and received $28 million from the Nixon Administration

Black Power in automotive industry from 1968-69 workers unionised across the industry

Wilmington Ten FBI bribed jurors to convict harsher sentences including use of Ku Klux Klan members

Black Power was a modern resurgence of the Civil rights fight and many of the Older generations of civil rights activists felt that it was too aggressive and uncompromising 

Black power was amorphous as it spread from black capitalism and liberations to black seperatism 

Black panthers requested exemption of blacks from Military service

With the rise of second wave feminism in the late 1960’s the black male power advocates like louis farrakhan and stokely carmicheal where seen more transparently for their sexism which alienated many white liberal women and black women both populations composed major parts of the movement
