Preparation Guide for the UDEE
Purpose of the Guide
The Uniformed Division Entrance Exam (UDEE) study guide is designed to assist applicants in preparing for the exam. It provides an overview of the test sections, includes sample questions, and offers explanations for the correct answers. It is organized into three chapters:

Integrity Reminder
Applicants must complete the UDEE honestly. Cheating or any dishonest conduct may lead to disqualification from the application process or removal from Federal service if already employed.
Chapter 1: Overview of the UDEE
Test Format
The UDEE is a computer-based, multiple-choice format exam that lasts a maximum of 3 hours and 45 minutes, inclusive of breaks. It consists of six separate tests:
Critical Thinking Test
Components: 5 passages followed by conclusions
Duration: 30 minutes for 23 questions
Purpose: Assess comprehension and reasoning abilities
Situational Judgment Test
Components: 15 video scenarios with various actions
Duration: 34 minutes for 82 questions
Purpose: Evaluate decision-making skills in practical situations
Memory Skills Test
Components: Questions about details from the Situational Judgment scenarios
Duration: 8 minutes for 12 questions
Purpose: Assess memory recall abilities
Figural Reasoning Test
Components: Series of four figures requiring identification of the next figure
Duration: 32 minutes for 14 questions
Purpose: Measure analytical and pattern recognition skills
Officer Writing Test
Components: Correction of grammar and structure in sentences
Duration: 35 minutes for 30 questions
Purpose: Evaluate writing skills essential for the officer position
Work Style Inventory
Components: Statements describing personal tendencies
Duration: 25 minutes for 139 questions
Purpose: Determine suitability for the role based on personal characteristics
Test Administration
Most candidates will take the UDEE at Pearson VUE Test Centers, which are located nationwide. Applicants must schedule their tests according to the specified open testing period and arrive at the center 30 minutes prior to their appointment. Acceptable forms of ID include a driver's license or passport. Late arrivals (more than 15 minutes) will not be admitted.
Chapter 2: Preparing for the UDEE
Critical Thinking Test
Description: Involves reading passages and evaluating conclusions.
Key Strategies: Understand context, identify valid conclusions, and practice statement types:
All Statements: Generalize only within the parameters set forth—"All A are B" does not imply "All B are A."
No Statements: Clearly indicate exclusions.
Some Statements: Limited to parts of the set.
If-Then Statements: Establish relationships that cannot be reversed unless negated.
Situational Judgment Test
Description: Features video scenarios with actions rated for effectiveness.
Assessment Method: Use a 1-7 scale to evaluate responses, with the possibility of repeating scenarios.
Memory Skills Test
Focus: Recall significant details from the Situational Judgment scenarios, with no review time allotted.
Figural Reasoning Test
Overview: Identify patterns in figures and apply them to select the next likely figure.
Officer Writing Test
Format: Requires correction of grammatical and structural errors with multiple-choice questions.
Work Style Inventory
Purpose: Evaluate personal characteristics and their fit for the UD Officer role, including responses based on past experiences.
