Instaway Pilot Project

  • David Lauer, the regional director of instaway has emailed me about an upcoming pilot project for our stores to make them stand out more against our competition.

Why?

  • The reason for this project is due to the fact that e-commerce has become far more popular over the years

  • Because of this, people prefer shopping for groceries online rather than in store, like our supermarkets

  • The pilot project is there to differentiate ourselves more from e-commerce by creating a state-of the art museum like experience where people learn how the groceries are made and prepared

Where?

  • The instaway pilot project will initially launch in Stoneridge, my region

What?

  • The goal is to reposition our stores as a state-of-the-art experiential shopping destination where our customers look forward to leaving their homes to not just buy products but experience the journey of where their food comes from and help purchase from local vendors.

How?

  • 80% of existing checkout lanes will be converted into self-checkout lanes

  • Employees who initially worked at checkout lanes will now be working in the following jobs:

    • Food Samplers

    • Aiding Cooking Instructors (yes we are bringing in some folks to show what people can do with our products)

    • Nutritionists

    • Personal Shoppers

    • Online and Curbside Fulfillment Specialists

Who?

  • Employees will not be allowed to pick their roles

  • There aren’t any anticipated job cuts

  • Employees will wear name tags with their pronouns

  • Job cuts haven’t been anticipated yet, but are still a possibility

When?

  • Not confirmed yet as the timeline is still in the making
