chapter 31: fungi
31.1 Describe the structure of the fungal body.

hyphae = thread-like filaments that make up a mushroom
they absorb nutrients by secreting hydrolytic enzymes that will break down organic molecules.
they also produce spores for reproduction.
hyphae makes up the mycelium
mycorrhizae = are mutually beneficial relationships between fungi and plant roots
they help deliver phosphate ions and minerals to plants. plants give back by supplying organic nutrients for the fungi to break down with hydrolytic enzymes and absorb.
31.2 Compare and contrast sexual and asexual reproduction in fungi.
31.3 Explain how fungi may have evolved from a single-celled protist.
31.4 Identify and characterize major phylogenetic groups of fungi.
31.5 Give examples of how fungi interact with other organisms.
