What: Refers to Claudius and how there are more closely related now but he feels less connected to him

What: The king is not throneworthy

Why: Poison corruption and death

*Horatio is concerned that pursuing the ghost will cause Hamlet deep mental distress

“…meet it is I set it down, / That one may smile, and smile, and be a villain”

What: Peoples’ appearances might be deceiving

Why: Appearance vs reality

“As I perchance hereafter shall think meet / To put an antic disposition on…”

What: he’s telling his friends that he might have to act mad in the future.

Why: in order to disguise his investigation and hide his revenge on Claudius

Soliloquy: character speaks there thoughts out loud usually when there alone on stage

Hamlets opinion on his father: He respects him as a king and he loves him

Hamlet feels disappointed in his mother Gertrude because she married king Claudius too quickly after his father death

Hamlet wants to get revenge on his uncle King Claudius for marrying his mother

Hamlet feels betrayed by all of this and it shows loyalty to his dad

Laertes Cautions his sister about a relationship with Hamlet because…… come back

Time is “out of joint” because of hamlets fathers death and his mother remarriage to Claudius. It means time is disrupted after all that happened.

Before The ghost will tell Hamlet his secret he demands for him to avenge him

Quote: “So art to revenge when thou shout here” this is what the ghost said to hamlet about seeking revenge

The secret the ghost tells hamlet is that he was murdered by Claudius

He wants hamlet to get revenge for him

Everyone else thinks that he died from a snake bite

He actually got killed from when Claudius put poison in his ear

The theme of that is appearance versus reality. He appeared to get bit by a snake, but in reality he got poisoned by Claudius

The ghost tells Hamlet that he must not hurt Gertrude

This shows that the ghost still cares about his wife
