    2. All handguns and certain semi-automatic rifles must be registered if they fall under the RPAL category.

    3. Certain firearms are classified as prohibited and are generally not allowed unless grandfathered in.

Safe Storage and Transportation

  • Storage Requirements:

    1. Firearms must be stored unloaded and locked up, including the use of a trigger lock.

    2. Firearms must be stored separately from ammunition.

  • Transportation Rules:

    1. Firearms must not be loaded during transportation.

    2. Firearms must be secured away from the driver.

    3. Restricted firearms must be locked in a case when transported.

    4. Authorization to Transport (ATT) is necessary for transporting restricted firearms.

Continuous Eligibility Monitoring

  • Licenses are monitored continuously by the RCMP.

  • Licenses can be revoked at any time without prior warning.

Additional Provincial or Municipal Regulations

  • Certain cities may impose stricter rules governing the possession and use of handguns.
