ORGAN/ FUNCTION

Tongue Manipulates food - mixes it with saliva ; also needed for speech and taste

Incisor Teeth -Used for cutting food

Canine Teeth -Used for gripping food

Molar Teeth -Used for grinding and chewing food

Esophagus -Transports food from mouth to stomach

Stomach -Stores and mechanically digests food (grinds)

Gallbladder -Stores bile

Liver -Produces bile, detoxifies blood, produces clotting proteins, stores vitamins and minerals

Pancreas -Produces digestive enzymes, hormones, and insulin; break down fats

Small intestine -Completes digestion and ABSORBS NUTRIENTS

Large intestine (colon) -Absorbs water and electrolytes; bacteria produce vitamins B and K; produces stool

Cecum -same as large intestine

Mesentery -Holds blood vessels and small intestines together

Parotid gland -Produces saliva

Parotid duct -Transports saliva from gland to mouth

URINARY SYSTEM

Kidney -Filters nitrogen containing waste from blood; regulates water levels

Ureter -Carries urine from kidney to bladder

Urinary bladder -stores urine

Urethra -Carries urine from bladder out of the body

FEMALE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM

Ovary -Produces eggs and sex hormones

Fallopian (uterine) tube -carries eggs from ovary to uterus (site of fertilization)

Uterus -nourishes a growing fetus

Vagina -Passage to allow entry of sperm and exit of fetus

MALE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM

Teste -Produces sperm and testosterone

Epididymis -Stores and matures sperm

Vas (ductus) deferens -Transports sperm from epididymis to seminal vesicle

Seminal vesicle -Produces seminal fluid (semen) to nourish sperm prostate Produces prostatic fluid to nourish sperm penis Contains urethra for exit of sperm and urine

RESPIRATORY SYSTEM

Trachea -Transports air from mouth to bronchi (and vice versa)

Larynx -Contains and protects vocal cords

Epiglottis -Flap at superior end of larynx that prevents food from entering trachea

Primary bronchi -Branch from trachea to carry air to/from each lung

Diaphragm -Causes expansion of lungs and breathing lungs Exchange carbon dioxide for oxygen in bloodstream

LYMPHATIC SYSTEM

Lymph nodes -Store white blood cells to fight infections

Spleen -Stores white blood cells and recycles red blood cells

OTHER ORGANS

Heart -Pumps blood

Thymus -Matures white blood cells
