Cell Structure and Function

          I.               Cell Theory (3 Parts):

1.        All living things are made of cells

2.        The cell is the basic structure of life.

3.        All Cells come from other cells.

o   Robert Hooks named the cell because it looked like tiny cell rooms when he looked at a plant cell through microscopes.

o   Cell Theory (1830) was (independently) proposed by 3 men: Schleiden, Schwann, and Virchow.

v  Matthias Schleiden: All plants are made of cells

v  Theodore Schwann: All Animals Are Made of Cells

v  Rudolf Virchow: all cells came from pre-existing cells.
