another major area of change in Europe was in architecture - the design of buildings. most buildings belong to poor people and these have disappeared. so we can only really look at changes to the homes of the wealthy, to churches and other public buildings. Romans and Greeks were very proud of their towns and cities. they built temples in which they worshipped their gods, places where ill people could go, stadiums and theatres. Romans also built public baths and town halls. Italians looked at what was left of the Romans and Greeks and wanted to make their cities and towns as grand. during the renaissance period, a new kind of person came on the European scene, the architect. architects were well-educated men. they studied classical buildings and set out to design buildings, which copied them in many ways. architects were employed by the rulers of the city-states and by wealthy patrons. the new buildings built by architects during the renaissance stunned the people who saw them. these buildings were so different from what they were used to.
