Convulsions and Their Dangers
Convulsions and Their Dangers
1. Risks of Convulsions (AR)
Anoxia: Prolonged spasms of respiratory muscles can lead to death from lack of oxygen.
Respiratory Failure: Following a convulsive episode, patients may experience respiratory failure leading to death.
2. Post-Convulsion Effects (CR)
Convulsions are typically followed by (CR) coma and respiratory depression.
3. Caution with Antidotes
Antidotes that may cause coma and respiratory depression must be used carefully.
Preferred Drugs (SET): These include succinylcholine (depolarizing neuromuscular blocker), ether (volatile anesthetic agent), and thiopental (barbiturate) due to their easily controllable effects.
