What is a forest?
An ecosystem or assemblage of ecosystems dominated by trees and other woody vegetation (eg. shrubs and vines).
What are the main components of a forest?
Abiotic components (atmosphere, oils, water, rocks, minerals, etc.) and biotic components (plants, animals, insects, fungi, microorganisms, etc.)
What is forest ecology?
Science that deals with the relationship between forest trees and their relationship with abiotic environment and other biotic components.
What is forest management, or forestry?
Application of technical forestry principles, practices and business techniques to the management of a forest to achieve the owner’s objectives.
What are some different kinds of forests?
Redwood, Tropical, Hardwood, Evergreen, Coniferous, Mangrove Swamps.
What are the benefits of forests?
Nutrient cycling, climate benefits, supporting high biodiversity, medical benefits, food production, areas of recreation, products such as lumber, pulp, rubber and cork.
