What are the functions of the NS?

\-carry impulses between the brain, neck, head, and spinal nerves.

CNS consists of?

brain and spinal cord

brain

consists of cerebrum, diencephalon, brainstem and cerebellum

Spinal cord

\- begins in the brainstem 

\- tapers to end at the first and second lumbar vertebrae 

\- terminal ends culminate in the cauda equina 

\- responsible for nerves conduction to and from the brain and body 

What does the peripheral NS consist of?

All other nerves throughout body

What are the roots that nerves end with?

dorsal and ventral root

dorsal root

carries sensory impulses to spinal cord

ventral root

carries sensory impulses away from cord and to muscles or glands

Cerebrum

largest and uppermost portion of the brain. Divided into right and left haves and subdivided into lobes

cerebral hemisphere

right and left halves of the cerebrum

cerebral cortex

outer layer of the cerebrum that controls higher mental functions
