Sign-Events
- Miracle = Subjective experience, depends on individual's reaction to it
- Others might observe the same thing but not see it as a miracle
- Does not breach natural laws
- Points at mystery of being that is at the heart of indivdual's experience
- It is a symbol within a religious experience

Who proposed miracles are "experiencing-as" ?
John Hick

Experiencing-as
- Miracles are natural events that have religious significance
- If a law of nature is violated, those laws simply expand to encompass this violation
- If an event is unexplainable, it's because our scientific knowledge is limited; there will be a natural explanation

Experiencing-as: Example
Ten Plagues of Egypt

Who proposed miracles as remarkable coincidences ?
RF Holland
Remarkable Coincidences
Miracles are:
- Natural occurences
- Beneficial in nature
- Have religious significance

Holland's example of Remarkable Coincidences
- Child on railway track, driver faints and hits emergency stop button in process
- Mother interprets this to be sign from God

Holland miracle quote
"A remarkable and beneficial coincidence that is interpreted in a religious fashion."
Issues with remarkable coincidences
- Very subjective
- Reduces God to understanding & interpretation of human minds
