Verism is a Latin word that means truth 

  • Hyper-realistic: wrinkles, baldness, age, and sagging skin 

  • Differs from Greek idealism, where youth and smooth, ideal bodies are shown 

  • Purpose: political propaganda → communicates wisdom, experience, and gravitas

  • Age= authority
