Diabetes

• Gestational diabetes

  • Often resolves after delivery

  • Regular diets

• Type 1 diabetes:

  • Glucose checks per orders

  • Insulin pump -

    • Check settings

    • Back to prepregnant dose

  • If no pump, insulin per order

  • ADA diet

• Type 2 diabetes:

  • Glucose check per orders

  • Insulin or diabetic medication per order

    • Back to prepregnant dose

  • ADA diet

• Hypoglycemic protocol

RhoGAM

• Admin. RhoGAM to mothers who are Rh- w/ a newborn who is RH positive

  • Verify that she received the 28 week gestation dose of RhoGAM

  • Second dose is given within 72 hrs after delivery

• Prevents a sensitization reaction during the birthing process

• Prevents initial isoimmunization in Rh - mom

• This is a BLOOD product

• Independent double verification

Discharge Education

• Expected vaginal discharge/ bleeding

  • Lochia

  • If they fully soak up a pad every single hour or more

  • Bigger clots

• Signs of HTN or PP preeclampsia

• Signs of infection

• Signs of DVT/ PE
  Signs of PP depression

• Follow up as per provider request
