U.S. Customary System for weight (used mainly in United States and 2 other countries: Myanmar and Liberia)

- Ounces (oz): Used for very light objects, like a stack of pennies.

- Pounds (lb): Used for things like people and everyday objects.

- Tons (t): Used for very heavy objects, such as cars or a whale.

30
New cards

Metric System for weight (used worldwide)

- Milligrams (mg): Tiny amounts, often used in medicine.

- Grams (g): Small items like jewelry or a small amount of food.

- Kilograms (kg): Used for body mass or household furniture.

- Metric Tonnes (mt): Used for very heavy items like cars, boats, and ships. (This is different from the U.S. "tons")

Difference between "mass" and "weight"

Mass: The amount of matter or "stuff" an object has. It's always the same, no matter where you are.

Example: A bouncy ball has the same mass whether it's in your hand or on the moon.

Weight: The force of gravity pulling on that object's mass. It can change depending on the gravity of the place you're in.

Example: That same bouncy ball weighs less on the moon because there's less gravity there to pull it down.

In simple terms, if you were to take the same bouncy ball to the moon, its mass would stay the same, but its weight would be much lighter.
